Tilarán, set just a few kilometers south of Lake Arenal, is a small town with a big natural backdrop. Known for its cattle ranching traditions, and views of the Arenal Volcano, it offers visitors a mix of rural charm and outdoor adventure.
The cool mountain air and peaceful streets make it a welcoming stop in Guanacaste — and now, it’s also becoming a place to play pickleball.
The Shack has four covered courts built on a tennis surface, plus one dedicated open-air pickleball court.
The floor has a slightly bouncier feel compared to other courts, and there isn’t much space behind the baseline. Still, playing here is great. The people are very welcoming, and while you’re on the court you can literally see horses grazing right next door. It’s a unique experience you won’t forget.
The Shack has open play everyday from 9am to 11am, and you can also book a court for playing at other times.

The hotel offers beautiful views of Lake Arenal, making it easy to combine pickleball with a relaxing getaway. A friendly local community organizes Open Play here, so it’s a perfect spot to meet other players while enjoying the stunning scenery.
